IMG_2171Thank you so much to North West Words, Cafe Blend and Easons in Letterkenny for making my first event in Donegal such fun! I read from Death at Whitewater Church and from Treacherous Strand (proof pages – I haven’t seen the actual book yet!) and was interviewed by my old barrister buddy and Donegal resident Emile Daly. I can admit now (at a safe remove!) that I was bloody nervous. Like Ben O’Keeffe, I was a blow-in when I lived in Inishowen, and so it is very important to me that the books are received well there, that the people who live in Donegal feel that I have done justice to their county. I need not have worried; I had a lovely welcome and was asked some really great questions. We even managed to explore the thorny issue of how to convey Donegal intonation and idiom without completely confusing my London editors!

The following day, I drove up to Inishowen. As usual I made a bee-line for one of my favourite places on earth. Lagg (or Five Fingers Strand) is a long golden beach few miles from Malin Town. It was windy (as it always is in Inishowen) and stunningly gorgeous. I took a truckload of photographs to try and compensate for the fact that I can’t walk there as often as I’d like to anymore. I’ve included a few here, many with the mysterious looking Glashedy Island in the distance (I have to get there someday!). Five Fingers Strand plays a significant role in my next book Treacherous Strand. Out 2nd June…
